Aline Bouvy

Artist description
Born in Brussels in 1974, raised in Luxembourg, Aline Bouvy first studied at the École de Recherche Graphique in Brussels for four years before attending the Jan Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht from 2010 to 2013. After staying in Berlin and London, she participated with several artists including Charlotte Beaudry, Céline Deguislage, and Claudia Radulescu in the collective TALE (The After Lucy Experiment). She also collaborates with painter John Gillis: together, they created "Venusia", a film that uses sculpture, video, and painting to explore issues like the future and our human condition, creating a work that Nav Haq, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp, describes as "colorful and dark, seductive and wild". Since 2014, now working alone, Aline Bouvy has asserted her talents as a multidisciplinary artist and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions from London to Vienna, passing through New York.
The artist is distinguished by a very subjective approach, questioning without complacency the images conveyed by our consumer society, even those considered in bad taste, sordid, or disturbing. By scanning the human body in all its aspects, naked or hidden, Aline Bouvy does not hesitate to integrate all these "residual" elements into her creative process, avoiding provocation by positioning herself on the fringes of society. Through her work, characterized by a rigorous aesthetic not devoid of humor, Aline Bouvy aims to highlight the role and commitment of the artist in each of our daily lives.
