Andre Bartiaux

Artist description
His wife and he met during their nursing studies... Becoming craftsmen, they settled in the small village of Auby-sur-Semois (Bertrix), in the province of Luxembourg. Both share a consuming passion: sculpture. Self-taught, André became interested in it at the age of 27 through contacts with many recognized artists, such as the Carolo artist Christian Leroy, now deceased, who was also a sculptor, ceramist, draftsman, and engraver. Working with clay, André Bartiaux says he "lets himself go with the flow of his inspiration", sometimes influenced by his past without having a specific style, which explains the originality of his artisanal creations.
On her side, Martine van Erkel, his wife, is particularly interested in the creation of bronze pieces, a passion that requires a lot of time and demands a technique she learned, she says, "from an old master who shared his secrets with her". She is in perfect harmony with her husband, André, who acknowledges: "Among the works I have created, we choose the best ones to turn into bronze".
