Frédéric Plateus

Artist description

Born in 1976, the Liège native Frédéric Plateus is the heir to many influences, partly imported from the United States, which led this self-taught artist to produce 3D sculptures in the wake of graffiti, of which he is one of the masters in Belgium. Inspired in particular by the "finish fetish" movement that developed in Los Angeles in the 1960s, the artist is fascinated by the world of industrialization of nautical and aerospace activities on the West Coast, not forgetting the domain of science fiction, as well as speed and sport, particularly basketball.

Using so-called "electric" colors, also a supporter of urban culture, Frédéric Plateus uses synthetic materials such as plastic, plexiglass, or polyester resin for his work, giving his sculptures a finish that aims to be impeccable in their deployment in space and whose reading, demanding, leads to visual pleasure. An appreciated and recognized artist, Frédéric Plateus has participated in numerous exhibitions in Belgium and Europe. His work reflects a very personal universe whose forms and colors aim to be both "playful and rigorous".
